Water Pollution Control Permit

Permit programs are among the basic tools the Agency uses to regulate wastewater discharges to Illinois streams and lakes. They provide facility owners and the public with a discharge specific interpretation of the law and regulations.

Air Permits

Assisted Living and Shared Housing

The Division of Assisted Living is responsible for all state licensure and survey processes for Assisted Living and Shared Housing establishments. Regulations were adopted in December of 2001 and IDPH began licensing establishments in July of 2002. The Office is located in the Springfield Central Office. The division is comprised of a Division Chief, Health Facilities Nurse Surveyors, and administrative support staff. Life Safety Code/physical plant surveys for these establishments are performed by the IDPH’s Design and Construction Section prior to licensure. All establishments are required to submit an annual renewal application with the applicable licensure fee.

Certificate of Free Sale

IDPH issues Certificates of Free Sale to Illinois Food and Dairy Manufacturers, Processors, Warehousers and Packers and other facilities which the Division of Food, Drugs and Dairies inspects, permits or surveys.

Asbestos Abatement, Training, & Licensing

Workers who manage or abate asbestos in schools, commercial, or public buildings must be trained and licensed. Contractors are responsible for conducting asbestos abatement projects. All contractors who conduct asbestos abatement projects must have insurance and are required to be licensed.

Emergency Medical Services Licensing

IDPH licenses people in the State of Illinois to assure they are competent and keep current in the practice of Emergency Medical Services. This includes the licensing of EMT-Basic, EMT-Intermediate, Advanced EMT, Paramedic, Lead Instructor, Emergency Medical Dispatcher, First Responder, Pre-Hospital Registered Nurse, and Emergency Communications Registered Nurse. Youth Camps and Campgrounds

State law requires the IDPH to annually inspect and license campgrounds in Illinois. The Campground Licensing and Recreational Area Act defines campground as a recreational area where three or more tents, cabins, recreational vehicles or other permanent or non-permanent type shelters are erected and maintained for camping or where space is provided for camping, temporary parking of recreational vehicles or placing of such tents, cabins, recreational vehicles or other permanent or non-permanent type shelters of any kind for 10 or more persons for six or more camping days during a calendar year. It includes any structure, tent, vehicle, enclosure, appurtenances or recreational equipment related to or used or intended for use as a part of such campground. Campgrounds within home rule units of government are exempt. Staff inspects the water supply and sewage disposal systems, the electrical systems, general sanitation, food service and recreational facilities. IDPH also reviews construction plans for all new campgrounds and for major expansions or alterations of existing ones. Other types of recreational areas that do not provide overnight camping such as highway rest stops and picnicking areas are subject to the rules, but are not licensed or routinely inspected.
